The Magic of June

The feature photo here is one that I took less than a week ago of a moss covered trail on an island four hours north of Salem, in the Gulf of Maine. To call this path "verdant," would be an understatement. The trail bisects the island and is an easier walk to the other side (as opposed to channeling your inner mountain goat to circumference the island instead). It's also a magical one. It wasn't quite June, but it was bursting with life and abundance - flowers, fern meadows, birds of all kind, and deer. This image is, to me, a perfect embodiment of the magic of June, especially along the coasts and in our coastal forests.

No matter what kind of witchcraft calls to you, June is a special month indeed. Everything is in bloom, ripening. The days will be at their longest, peaking this year on 20 June - the Summer Solstice or Litha. For all witches, this is the time to celebrate the light, the sun, and to draw in that energy on the solstice.

This is also the perfect month to review the first half of the year now gone by. Look at your new year's intentions and see where you've succeeded, and where you could maybe pivot. It may also be the perfect time to let some of those things go, and set new intentions for the remainder of the year.

Personally, I like to let things go as we move into June. This is the month where I immerse myself (literally) in the still-cold waters of the North Atlantic and draw in the abundant energy created by the maturing of sea life birthed in the spring tidal pools, the gradual warming of our waters (though never too warm!), and the definite warmth of the sun. Letting the sun warm me as I float, being caressed by a temperate sea breeze and cradled in the cold water is the perfect way to spend a June morning and to remind myself of the gifts of the world around me, and to strike out on new paths if necessary.

If you're unsure how to harness the bright and fiery energy of June, try journaling - see how you feel connecting with the sun's energy and write about it. Or find a natural spot that calls to you, and explore even the smallest of spaces to see what life is flourishing in the warming month.

We'll have more to say on Litha in a couple of weeks, but we will be celebrating that solar bounty with a special workshop here at The Sea Wych Salem too, so if you're trying to connect with June and not finding it easy, consider signing up when the workshop is posted.

We'd love to hear your thoughts too - how do you connect with the green and gold energy of June? Let us know in the comments!
