Making May Magic

Beltane has passed, but May is still in its infancy and asking us to reconnect to our sacred waters. We've talked about the spring tides at the very start of this season, but now, we don't need to turn our psychic senses to the budding life beneath our feet as we walk the strand - we can see it clearly. Coastal forests are bright with spring green leaves and flowering trees, insects have been emerging, and though the waters here may still be cold (even in the height of summer, the waters here are cold), life has returned.
So how does a sea or water witch celebrate the magic of May? Well...
Now is the time to head to your sacred waters and sit in stillness, in the warmth of the spring sun, under the speckled shade of new and unfurling leaves, and cast your mental and psychic net wide to the waters. If you're feeling drained, spring seas are excellent for reinvigorating you, and if you're bold enough to get in, a spring dip will certainly recharge your batteries.
As we've noted before, spring is truly the season of gifts from the waves, and this is the perfect month to recharge your ocean altar with new intentions, new crystals, new shells, and other new gifts from the sea. Always remember to give back though! The simple act of saying "thank you," for each treasure found, followed by a beach cleanup or a gift or offering of your own (only something from nature please!) is a good way to give back.
This month is also a good time to refresh your altar with full moon, high tide water for reaping abundant rewards, or full moon, low tide water for gaining clarity.
If wildflowers are springing up near your waters, consider cutting some to take home for your altar too. Be mindful of local ordinances that may prohibit the taking of certain species of flowers, or flowers/plants from certain areas though. One of the things we must (yes, must) always be mindful of is leaving as little to no trace as we can.
Spring energy is everywhere and rising right now, so take advantage of it - sit in the sun, by the water, and revel in the new blooms and leaves. Do you have any springtime rituals you like to incorporate into your sea practice this time of year?
